Anxiety

Find support when worry feels overwhelming.

Everyone feels anxious at times. It is a natural response to stress, and in small doses it can even help us prepare for what matters. But when worry becomes constant, hard to control, or out of proportion to what is actually happening, it can start to shape your days: how you sleep, how you work or study, and how you connect with the people around you.

At Alliance Wellness Solutions, we help people understand what they are experiencing and find practical ways to feel more in control. Care is available in person at our Towson office and by telehealth anywhere in Maryland.

Signs anxiety may be affecting your life

Anxiety shows up differently for different people. It can be emotional, physical, or both. You may notice:

  • Worry that is hard to switch off, even when you know it is out of proportion
  • Feeling restless, keyed up, or on edge
  • Difficulty concentrating, or your mind going blank
  • Irritability or a shorter temper than usual
  • Muscle tension, headaches, or an unsettled stomach
  • Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
  • A racing heart, shortness of breath, or sudden waves of panic
  • Avoiding places, people, or situations because of fear

If these feelings have lasted for weeks, or they are getting in the way of school, work, or relationships, it may be time to talk to someone.

Forms anxiety can take

Anxiety is an umbrella term for several related experiences. Some of the most common include:

  • Generalized anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Social anxiety
  • Specific fears and phobias
  • Health anxiety
  • Performance and test anxiety
  • Stress and life transitions

Anxiety also often appears alongside other concerns, such as depression, ADHD, or trauma. Part of our assessment is understanding the full picture, so that your care addresses what is really going on.

How we help

Care begins with a conversation. Your first appointment is a chance to talk about what you have been experiencing, how long it has been going on, and what you would like to change. From there, we work with you to build a plan that fits your needs.

Therapy

Talking with a therapist can help you understand the patterns behind your anxiety and build skills to manage it: noticing anxious thoughts and questioning them, calming your body’s stress response, and gradually facing situations you have been avoiding. Many people find that these skills keep helping long after therapy ends.

Medication management

For some people, medication can ease symptoms enough to make daily life, and therapy, more manageable. Our psychiatric nurse practitioners can evaluate whether medication may help, explain your options clearly, and monitor how you are doing over time.

Support for families

When a child or teen is struggling with anxiety, the whole family feels it. Family sessions can help parents and caregivers understand what their child is going through and learn how to respond in ways that build confidence rather than avoidance.

What to expect

  1. Reach out. Request a consult online or call our office. Our team will answer your questions and help you find a time that works.
  2. Your first appointment. We take the time to listen and to understand your concerns, your history, and your goals.
  3. A plan that fits. Together, we decide on next steps, whether that is therapy, medication management, or both.
  4. Ongoing support. We check in on your progress and adjust your care as your needs change.

You do not have to wait until it feels unbearable

Many people put off asking for help because they feel their anxiety is not “bad enough,” or that they should be able to handle it on their own. Anxiety is common, and it is treatable. Reaching out sooner rather than later can make it easier to manage.

Maybe it’s time to talk to someone.
