Conditions We Treat

Depression

Reconnect with the parts of life that matter to you.

Depression is more than feeling sad or going through a rough patch. It is a common and treatable condition that can affect how you think, how you feel, and how you handle everyday life, from sleeping and eating to working and spending time with the people you care about.

At Alliance Wellness Solutions, we offer a supportive, judgment-free space to talk about what you are going through, and care that is built around you. Appointments are available in person at our Towson office and by telehealth anywhere in Maryland.

Signs of depression

Depression looks different from person to person, and symptoms can change over time. Common signs include:

  • A persistent sad, empty, or hopeless mood
  • Losing interest or pleasure in things you used to enjoy
  • Sleeping much more or much less than usual
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Low energy or feeling tired all the time
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions
  • Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
  • Feeling slowed down, or restless and unable to sit still
  • Aches, pains, or digestive problems without a clear physical cause
  • Thoughts of death or suicide

When several of these last most of the day, nearly every day, for two weeks or more, it is worth speaking with a professional. In children and teens, depression can look more like irritability, anger, or withdrawal than sadness.

Forms depression can take

Depression is not one single experience. Some of the forms it can take include:

  • Major depression
  • Long-lasting low mood
  • Postpartum depression
  • Seasonal depression
  • Depression with anxiety
  • Low mood after a life change or loss

Depression can also be part of bipolar disorder, which calls for a different treatment approach. A careful evaluation helps tell them apart, so that your care is the right fit from the start.

How we help

Care begins with a conversation about what you have been experiencing, how it is affecting your life, and what you would like to feel different. From there, we work with you on a plan, which may include one or more of the following.

Therapy

Therapy offers a space to talk openly, make sense of what you are feeling, and work on the thoughts and patterns that keep depression going. Over time, it can help you rebuild routines, reconnect with what matters to you, and develop ways of coping that last.

Medication management

Antidepressant medication can be an effective part of treatment for many people. Our psychiatric nurse practitioners can evaluate whether medication may help, talk you through the options, and follow up regularly. Medication often takes several weeks to reach its full effect, so ongoing check-ins matter.

Group therapy

Depression can be isolating. Clinician-led groups connect you with others who understand what you are going through, offering support, perspective, and practical tools in a shared setting.

What to expect

  1. Reach out. Request a consult online or call our office. Our team will answer your questions and help you find a time that works.
  2. Your first appointment. We take the time to listen and to understand your concerns, your history, and your goals.
  3. A plan that fits. Together, we decide on next steps, whether that is therapy, medication management, or both.
  4. Ongoing support. We check in on your progress and adjust your care as your needs change.

Taking the first step is enough

One of the hardest things about depression is that it can make asking for help feel like too much. If that is where you are right now, you do not need to have everything figured out. A single call or message is enough to begin, and we will take it from there with you.

Maybe it’s time to talk to someone.
